Megan

Psychologist

Megan has been a registered psychologist for 30 years, working mainly with older people and their carers. Megan was the senior psychologist with the Toowoomba Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) for 18 years. As part of her role at ACAT, she provided dementia education and assessment services to the south west Queensland area. During her time at ACAT, she also worked closely with the Older Person’s Mental Health Team. In addition to her professional experience, Megan also has lived experience with being a carer of an older family member, where she provided long term care, including palliative care.
Megan’s counselling style is gentle, respectful, and person-centred. She has been trained in an holistic approach and looks at how a person’s physical health, their environment and their social situation impact on their psychological health. She works collaboratively with her clients to identify their unique situations and challenges, and develop skills and strategies to reach their goals.
Megan understands that going to therapy for the first time, particularly as an older person, can feel uncomfortable and reaching out for support may not be easy. During the time you work with Megan, she will take care to ensure you are in a comfortable space physically as well as psychologically. To ensure this, Megan can provide online sessions and off-site sessions as well as in-house sessions.

Megan combines different evidence-based tools to meet the individual needs of each client. These can include:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- Cognitive Behaviour
- Therapy
- Mindfulness
- Positive Psychology, particularly Positive Ageing
- Solution Focused Therapy
- Trauma informed Practice
- Strength Based Approach
- End of Life Counselling
- Cognitive Assessments
